Getting up early on the weekend is always a drag. However, last Sunday I had a rush of excitement when my alarm chimed. My two younger sisters and I were headed to Catalina Island–a short ferry ride out of my very own city. We packed our bags and headed out to this funny little island that none of us had been to in almost 10 years (one had never been).
We enjoyed coffee on the boat ride over and hit the road once our feet were on the ground again. We hiked out of Avalon, through some campsites and up to the top of the ridge where we could see both sides of the island and the turquoise blue waters on the opposite side. We hiked back down through some botanical gardens and a pretty lookout tower.
After recovery tacos and margaritas, we walked through town, along the shore and to the private Descanso Beach where we enjoyed the suns rays while watching kayakers, SUPers, and dolphins play in the waves. The lowering sun called for some happy hour goodies so we headed to the bar deck where we lived in a real life Corona ad. It felt tropical and perfect. After ordering some fish & chips from a little shack, we savored the last of the little town before heading back home exhausted and sun kissed.
